HIS HOLINESS VALLALAR

His Holiness Ramalinga Adigal reverently called as “Sri Arulprakasa Vallalar” was a great saint born in the 19^th Century and established the “Samarasa Sutha Sanmarka Sathiya Sangam”, which thought is well beyond the religion and religious faith. His Holiness also propounded a separate flag to symbolize it, and enshrined the “SANMARKAM” with specific mode of life style and principles to be adhered. His Holiness, in fact had lamented that most of his, life span went in vain and had not gained anything because of mere rituals and religious beliefs, His Holiness Vallalar whole heartedly declared that the religion caste are not true and hence should be abandoned.

His Holiness established Samarasa Veda Sanmarka Sangam, during 1865, after gaining Gnana relating to “Spiritual God” experience His Holiness changed the name of Samarasa Veda Sanmarga Salai as “Samarasa Sutha Sanmarka Sathiya Sangam” during the year 1872 and also established the Discipline, Doctrine and Principles, Flag, Songs, Agaval, (the original of the same written by His Holiness in his own handwriting is now available at Sathya Dharma Salai) Vinnappangals, The above all are the primary and integral parts of the “Samarasa Sutha Sanmarka Sathiya Sangam”.

The letters and songs now called as “Sixth Thirumurai” written by His Holiness are totally ignoring the religion and religious rituals. After propounding the “Sixth Thirumurai”. Shri Vallalar established the “Sathya Gnana Sabai” in the year 1872 and dedicated Arupperum Jothi Agaval on 18.04.1872.

His Holiness in his teachings more specifically in the “Sixth Thirumarai” says that he was able to identify the deities of Hindu religion viz., Bramma, Rudthra, Paramasivam, Sadhasivam, Parasakthi as the minute atoms found in the nails of the left leg of His “Spiritual God”. So accordingly to His Holiness the saivate God Sivam and his “Spiritual God” (Arut Perunjothi Andavar) are not one and the same. Moreover, His Holiness also emphasized that all the priests, angels, religious leaders, yogis and siddars are living and awaiting for the arrival of Spiritual God (Almighty), for all.

The “education for Eternal Life” (Saga Kalvi) is the core principle of the “Sanmarkkam” on the day on which His Holiness came out with ‘full enshrined body’. Devotees from all over the world assemble to mark the day as “Thiruarai Tharisanam”.

Even during the British regime, the then Governor General (then Collector of South Arcot) after and enquiry had recorded his opinion and the same had also been published in the gazette (year 1878 pages 316 and 317),

Lakhs and lakhs of people having faith in His Holiness visit Mettukuppam and Sithivalakam on a specific day for having “Sithi Valaga Thiru Arai Tharisanam”.

His Holiness by His promulgation has brought to light various components of cosmos and its secret and the microcosm in the human body, the relationship between cosmos and humans, the ways and means to reach and realize the facts of the above. His Holiness has preached that it is only through “Jeevakarunyam” (compassion etc.,) the only essentiality to attain the Spiritual God and that His Holiness emphatically informed that the following of mere rituals and ceremonies cannot show the path to realization. In fact His Holiness has devised a table of principles and doctrines to be followed for attainment of the above ambition and for realizing the Truth of God and attaining deathless body (Saga Nilai).

In fact if one goes through the spiritual journey of His Holiness, there are three stages viz.,

(i) the following of Saivism and Idol worship by virtue of birth.

(ii) condemning the discrimination arising due to caste, community, religion, race, etc., and while following Saivism. His Holiness has composed the songs of Thiruvarutpa, Pathigams etc., relating to Saivism and established Veda Sanmarga Sangam and Veda Padasalai on 1865.

(iii) after attaining Gnana (truth and realisation of God 1871 – 1874) His Holiness promulgated His own philosophy as found in Agaval, Vinnappangal & Perubathesam which forms the primary and integral parts of His Holiness Philosophy. The Agaval can be seen even in His Holiness own handwriting now available in the Dharmasalai, considered as a Holy Book by the followers. Based on the above Philosophy the teachings of His Holiness is named as PAERUBADESAM. It was only in this stage His Holiness denounces the earlier faiths followed by His Holiness viz., Saivism, Vanavism, Myths, Veda, Epics and their rituals, customs, usage, practice according to the Sastras and the custom or usage of the world.

His Holiness after promulgating His own philosophy has laid down the doctrines and principles to be followed, created a separate flag, objective, discipline (food, dress code, day to day discipline), chose a separate place for Dharma Salai, Gnana Sabai, Sithivalagam and formulated a Unique Thought (sagakalvi – eternal life). During 1871 – 1872 His Holiness established “Samarasa Sutha Sanmarga Sathya Gnana Sabai” as per His Holiness new thought and subsequently during 1873 His Holiness renamed the earlier Veda Sanmargam as “Samarasa Sutha Sanmarga Sathya Sangam” and also named the Dharma Salai as “Samarasa Sutha Sanmarga Sathya Dharmasalai”. In short the very essence of the philosophy promulgated by His Holiness is “Compassion”, only through which, one can realise the whole truth of God.

The main obstacles of the Sangam viz., Samayams, Religion, other faiths and their rituals, customs and usage according to Sastras and customs and practice of the world of the said sangam. His Holiness prays to God that these obstacles should not be attached to us. Therefore, His Holiness initially followed the Saivite Philosophy during the periods from 1823 to 1870 and has visited many Temples and has composed many songs. His Holiness had also written Thiruarutpava Songs in 5 volumes during the said periods. Only after the above, His Holiness found a new path of His own wherein His Holiness has denounced the earlier stages. His Holiness has written “AGAVAL” wherein His Holiness emphatically asked His followers to follow the path laid down therein.

In the said Perupadesam, His Holiness emphatically states that one should leave the religious faiths like Saivam, Vainavam and Vedas, Agamas, Myths, Epics to “Gnana” (truth of God). His Holiness has also stated that His Holiness himself stand as a witness, wherein it has stated that only after leaving the Religion in which he had enormous faith, he had gained the present Gnana (truth of God). His Holiness promises that each and every human being may attain “Gnana” when only leaves Saivam, etc., submitted above. This clearly reveals that His Holiness was not a Saivaite, or any other Margams. His Holiness further states the he wrote Thiruvarutpa, when he had limited knowledge and it was only because of His leaving the above faiths, His Holiness had gained the present Gnana and has advised one to leave likewise, to gain the Gnana (truth and realisation of God of Nature viz. Arupperum Jothi Andavar). His Holiness has specifically stated that the religious faith in Saiva had not uplifted His Holiness to the present stage but only the compassion had uplifted him.

The doctrines of His Holiness as promulgated in PAER UPADESAM as well as in AGAVAL clearly establishes that all religions, religious faiths are false and limited and they cannot make one realise the truth of God.
